Advantages of Faux Rock Panels

River rock design elements can look incredible inside your home and around your property, but they’re also realistic and practical. Our river rock panels and siding are superior to natural building materials, and here’s why:

Low-Cost Shipping and Installing

Because high-density polyurethane and polypropylene are very lightweight, our panels are more cost-efficient to ship and easier to install than real rock.

With our simple instructions and tools that you likely already own, it's possible to install our faux river rock stone panels in hours – and without headaches or muscle strain – or the need for a professional.

Weather Durability

Our faux rock panels are made of high-density polyurethane so they can withstand climate conditions like wind, moisture, harsh cold and scorching sun, and most other forms of wear and tear.

Faux rock panels don’t attract insects or pests and will continue to look great without cracking, or peeling for many years to come. Long-term durability, and little maintenance required – it’s a win-win!

Tips on Installing Faux River Stone Panels

Wondering how to install faux rock panels? One person can perform the installation steps because they're so lightweight and easy to manipulate. It’s a DIY project – it’s just that simple!

When you’re ready to get started, read our detailed installation instructions for River Stone Panels and Novik River Rock Siding.

Each of our product pages has a calculator next to the quantity selector. Since each style has unique dimensions, we recommend using the calculator located on the page for your chosen panels.

You can input your dimensions and it will advise on quantities based on the coverage dimensions of the specific panel you have selected.

Each wall panel can be cut very easily with any quality wood cutting tool. Instructions on how to cut a panel can be found in this installation guide.

Our faux wall panels are made from high-density polyurethane. Our products are NOT made from soft EPS Styrofoam. This enables us to make exact replicas of rock products without worrying about product damages and wear down.

Our panels are oversized. The exact dimensions vary by style and are listed under the “Specifications” tab on each product page.

Yes, we can make custom panels for large volume orders and commercial jobs. Please contact us to see if custom parts are an option for your project.

Yes. Our high density polyurethane panels can be painted with any good quality water based latex paint.

Corner pieces are available for many panel styles or the corners can be mitered.

Yes. Our panels are ideal for mobile home skirting. You first would have to frame the area. This popular blog might give you ideas or inspiration.

No. Our panels are very rigid and should not be used on curved surfaces.

Yes, in most cases. To install over most tiles you would only need to make sure that the existing tile is structurally sound and fairly flat/level.

If it is an extremely textured (uneven) tile, such as a tumbled marble tile with designs in it, or if it has a different height bullnose tile running through or between the tiles, then it will need to be removed before installing our products.

If it has a low profile/flat face surface, then the next step is to make sure it is clean, dry, and secure. We would also recommend you use a fine grit sandpaper and rough up the surface of the tiles so that the adhesive works better.

The most important thing with any install is surface integrity. If your existing tile or grout is loose or chipping, then you may have to remove it first. You can install our panels over tile using our adhesive only installation instructions.

In many cases yes. Panels require a structurally sound, relatively smooth surface for installation, so it depends on the texture of the stucco. If it is a “slight” (less than ¼”) stucco, you should be able to install our product over it.

If the texture of the stucco is heavy or severe, it will require sanding or removing the stucco so there is adequate surface contact (minimum of 85%) between our product and the wall.

The appropriate installation method will depend on the type of wall beneath the stucco.

If it is some type of plywood, MDF, etc. (standard framing materials) then you would just follow our standard exterior adhesive and fastener installation procedures for panels. If it is concrete or masonry then follow the adhesive-only exterior installation instructions.

Although our products are incredibly realistic, they are not real rock. They are molded out of high-density polyurethane. Polyurethane products have similar burning characteristics to wood and should be considered combustible unless fire-rated polyurethane is specifically ordered.

Most of our products can be used around a fireplace opening/insert, and/or stove, provided you follow the fireplace insert/stove manufacturer's specifications for required clearances.

When using our products around an open hearth where there will be a live flame (i.e., wood, coal, etc.), you must use some type of non-flammable border.

Based on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes, a minimum 6” non-flammable border is required for all combustible materials with a thickness of 1 ½”. If a product is selected with a thickness over 1 ½”, an additional 1” of non-flammable border must be added for every 1/8” of additional product thickness.

Some building codes may require a clearance greater than 6”. Please check with your local Fire Marshall for your particular application to ensure you meet the code that applies to you.

Our products are not intended to be used on the hearth. The hearth must be constructed using a non-combustible surface such as marble, stone, brick or real rock per local and national building codes.

Our products are not suitable for the inside of your fireplace/firebox. Other than this, our standard high-density polyurethane products can be installed using the fireplace/stove manufacturer recommended clearance for combustible decorative building materials. You must adhere to any, and all, national and local building and/or fire codes.

Yes, most of our lines have a fire-rated polyurethane option. Products made of fire-rated polyurethane are more expensive and frequently have a longer lead time than products made from our standard high-density polyurethane.
